Introduction
Four-hand therapy is a luxurious and therapeutic **synchronized massage** where two therapists work together, mirroring each other’s movements on both sides of the body. Using **warm medicated oils** (taila), the therapists follow traditional Ayurvedic techniques that enhance circulation, detoxify tissues, and balance **Vata, Pitta, and Kapha**.
Having a **male and female therapist together** brings the symbolic balance of **Purusha (masculine energy)** and **Prakruthi/Shakti (feminine energy)** — creating harmony between strength and softness.
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. **Preparation**
* The guest is welcomed and seated for a short consultation (dosha type, health condition, preference).
* Warm herbal oil is selected (commonly *Dhanwantharam Thailam, Ksheerabala Thailam, or Narayana Thailam*).
* The treatment room is kept warm, calm, and softly lit with relaxing music.
2. **Seated Head & Shoulder Massage**
* Both therapists apply oil to scalp, forehead, neck, and shoulders.
* Gentle pressure on marma points helps calm the mind and open energy channels.
3. **Full Body Oil Massage (Abhyanga)**
The client lies on a wooden droni (Ayurveda therapy table). Therapists stand on each side, working in **perfect synchrony**:
* **Back of Body**
* Long strokes from shoulders to feet.
* Circular strokes around joints (knees, ankles, hips).
* Special attention to the spine with synchronized pressure.
* **Front of Body**
* Chest & abdomen — gentle circular strokes (clockwise over stomach for digestion).
* Arms & hands — smooth flowing strokes with marma activation.
* Legs & feet — firm strokes to improve circulation and ground Vata.
* **Head & Face**
* Oil applied to forehead, temples, and cheeks.
* Gentle upward strokes to release tension.
4. **Synchronized Techniques**
* Therapists mirror each other’s hand movements exactly.
* Rhythm is maintained for deep mental relaxation — often leading the client into meditative states.
* Pressure is adjusted according to patient’s comfort.
5. **Sweating / Sudation (Optional)**
* After massage, herbal steam (*bashpa sweda*) may be given to open pores, flush toxins, and enhance absorption of oils.
6. **Completion**
* Excess oil wiped gently with a warm towel.
* The guest is advised to rest for 30 minutes, then bathe with warm water.
* Light herbal tea may be served.
